Around this time every year, the Book Fair Committee starts calling in favours and begging every warm body they know to help out.  Thanks to their relentless cajoling the fair becomes a true community event.  It would be impossible to name everyone who helps as everyone gives as much time as they can.  We must mention some however as their work mostly take place in the background.  Huge admiration for all those who set up the fair; St. Scrire Community Development, carpenters, electricians and those with strong backs and a sense of humour. Bear in mind they have to take everything down and pack it away one day later. Thanks to those who organise the car park (remember parking is free), take the money, sell raffle tickets and are on hand to make the experience fun for our customers.

Thomas Potterton  ensures our  quirky venue.  It’s a Cattle Mart.  For one day only it is transformed into an event.  Cattle pens become book stalls,  a stage, shops and seating.  Thomas is an enthusiastic supporter and the reason the fair is possible.  Potterton

Can we also mention McCormack stores who help us with materials and Allied Waste who clean up after us.

We also need to mention those businesses that support the Short Story Competition which is an integral part of the fair.  The competition is run in conjunction with The Westmeath Examiner who collect the entries, render them anonymous and liaise with the judging panel.  Most importantly they provide a publishing forum for the winning entry.   Small organisations need all the help they can get and we are particularly grateful to The Bloomfield something Hotel, Rock N’ Bowl and Just Books.  They provide the prizes every year.
